Profile Security on hand for Queen’s visit to Southampton

As the latest addition to the prestigious P&O Cruises fleet sailed into port, it was all hands on deck at Profile Security. As well as looking after routine duties in and around Southampton’s cruise liner terminal, special security measures had to be put in place in preparation for Her Majesty The Queen’s visit on March 10th.

Profile paired up with the company masterminding the occasion, Event Management, in the two weeks leading up to the big day. Assisting with planning and preparation advice, Profile helped with the set-up of the day’s events and entertainment, as well as every detail of the logistics involved. Grandstands and presentation platforms all received the red carpet security treatment, while even freight containers on adjoining docks were repositioned to act as wind breaks.

On the day, Profile Security staff and vehicles provided effective yet unobtrusive cover as the naming ceremony drew near. While invited guests and VIPs took their seats alongside the ship, all were treated to marching bands, displays by the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing troupe and music courtesy of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. On the quayside, TV comedian Rob Bryden set the scene, while taking turns for various photo-calls were celebrity chefs James Martin and Marco Pierre White, ballerina Darcey Bussell, and presenters Tess Daly and Anneka Rice among a host of well-known faces.

Shortly before midday, the Queen accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh arrived at the Ocean Terminal, a chance for many of the Profile Security team to catch a privileged view of the proceedings. Once the Royal party had taken their places on the stage, a push of a button was all that was required to send a giant bottle of British sparkling wine crashing against the ship’s hull, as Britannia’s naming ceremony was brought to a close with showers of red, white and blue confetti.
